Announced a few days ago by CEO and General Manager Luigi Ferraris, Terna‘s 2020-2024 Strategic Plan is focused on energy transition and integration of renewable sources. It is a financial commitment that is growing further (+20%) compared to the 2019 Plan, aimed at supporting the development of Italian local areas, as well as decarbonization: “We plan to invest over 7 billion euros in Italy in five years. Within these 7 billion euros, 900 million will be invested in innovation and digitization“. To achieve such objectives in a context where the transition from a centralized to an integrated model is underway, the company that manages the Italian transmission grid intends to focus on digital technologies, as they allow to collect information and to transfer data flows, as well as to store and analyze them in a way that is quick, efficient, and inexpensive. Following the reduction of traditional energy generation and the increase of renewables, local communities will play a key role in environmental sustainability: this is the reason why Terna plans to enhance participatory planning and to share its know-how with all the stakeholders of the energy sector. This strategy is expected to have significant effects also on an economic level: “By boosting our expenditure and leveraging our core competences – said Luigi Ferraris – we aim to achieve operating margin growth in excess of an average of 4% per year over the plain period“.
